Dorothy, a teacher at a college in Canada, Emailed to request one of my articles to use in her class, which she initially referred to as a class on "working with families." Then she sent the following Email:

I debated about telling you the actual name of the course that I'm teaching. Get ready to cringe! It was called "Working with Complex Families." I said I would teach it this year on condition that the word "complex" gets taken out, and asked them if they were also offering a course for families called, "Working with Complex Service Providers"? Needless to say, we spent some time during the first class time talking about why this title was inappropriate—not strengths-based, not people first. Just when I think we've come a long way, I realize how far we have to still go!
